Idaho Backroads: Parma, Idaho

September 30, 2012

Parma, Idaho is located on Highway 20/26, about 17 miles West of Caldwell.

It’s the local hub of the vast surrounding agricultural area with the Union Pacific Railroad’s mainline running through town.

Parma’s downtown area is reminiscent of the 1950s and 1960s with its local businesses and old buildings.

If you live in the Boise area, you’ve probably seen the TV ads for the enormous Parma Furniture store.

Idaho Backroads: Marsing, Idaho

September 23, 2012

Marsing is a quaint old Idaho farming community located about 16 miles west of Nampa on Highway 55.

Situated in a lush, rolling valley, downtown Marsing feels like stepping back in time with its old downtown buildings and homes.

The majestic Snake River runs through town and offers boating and excellent fishing.

Marsing remains a center of agricultural activity, including numerous wineries in the surrounding countryside.

History of Glenns Ferry

Downtown Glenns Ferry

Snake River

Glenns Ferry is a leisurely 75-mile drive southeast of Boise, just off I-84.

This quaint old farming community was built on the banks of the majestic Snake River.

A visit to downtown Glenns Ferry is like stepping back in time to the 1950s when life was slower-paced and less complicated.

Old U.S. Highway 30 runs through town and you can still find nearby wagon wheel ruts on the Oregon Trail where immigrants traveled to “The West” in covered wagons pulled by oxen.

Historic Three Island Crossing (where immigrants crossed the treacherous Snake River) can be viewed from the beautiful Three Island Crossing State Park that also includes the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.
