Construction of the Chinden Boulevard Widening Begins!
The long-awaited widening of Chinden Boulevard is now underway.
The widening project will substantially alleviate traffic congestion in the Northwest Meridian area when completed.
Contractors are now grading alongside the south side of Chinden Boulevard, west of Linder Road, to make room for additional traffic lanes.
When completed, Chinden Boulevard will include four lanes for vehicle traffic, a 14’ median, a bike lane, and a multi-use pathway from Eagle Road to Highway 16.

Construction will be completed in four phases.
The first phase will include the section between Linder Road and Highway 16 (now under construction).
The second phase will include the section between Eagle Road and Locust Grove, planned for construction in late 2019-2020.
The third phase will include the section between Meridian Road and Linder Road, planned for construction in 2020.
The fourth phase will include the section between Locust Grove and Meridian Road, scheduled for construction in 2021.
The fourth phase will be constructed last to allow the developers of the new Winco development at Chinden Boulevard/Linder Road to generate revenues needed to fund that section.
Other Projects
The planned future extension of Highway 16 from Chinden Boulevard to I-84 will also ease congestion on Eagle Road.
Planning of the Highway 16 extension project is underway, but that project awaits funding for construction.
The Chinden Boulevard widening is part of a plan that includes widening Highway 20/26 (aka Chinden Boulevard in Ada County) to I-84 in Caldwell.
Separately from this widening project, ACHD is widening Ten Mile Road from Chinden Boulevard to McMillan Road.
How To Avoid Traffic Congestion
To avoid traffic congestion during construction, plan on using alternate routes such as McMillan Road, Ustick Road, and Highway 16 from Chinden Boulevard to Highway 44.
Ten Mile Road also provides easy access to I-84 at the Ten Mile Road interchange.
