There are many reasons why people move to Idaho!
People move to Idaho for the quality of life, less crime, moderate four-season climate, affordable housing, low cost of living, less traffic, friendly people, and many other reasons.
In fact, Idaho ranked #2 for “high inbound” in-migration in 2016, according to the latest United Van Lines annual survey.
The Western U.S. dominated the list of states with the following percentages of “high inbound” moves:
- Oregon: 67%
- Idaho: 65%
- Washington: 58%
- Nevada: 58%
- Arizona: 57%
The survey also revealed that retirees comprised one in four Mountain West inbound moves.
The 2016 survey data results were heavily influenced by retirees’ relocation decisions, resulting in new retirement hubs in the western states.
hmmm . . . . almost sounds like they’re describing Boise, Meridian, and Eagle!
Across all regions surveyed, about 20% of all moves were motivated by a desire to be closer to their family.
62% of all Pacific West moves occurred as a result of employment changes.
The top “outbound move” states included New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Utah, and Pennsylvania.
In case you’re wondering; California was balanced, with inbound moves nearly equal to outbound moves.
