Idaho Backroads: Glenns Ferry, Idaho
History of Glenns Ferry
Downtown Glenns Ferry
Snake River
Glenns Ferry is a leisurely 75-mile drive southeast of Boise, just off I-84.
This quaint old farming community was built on the banks of the majestic Snake River.
A visit to downtown Glenns Ferry is like stepping back in time to the 1950s when life was slower-paced and less complicated.
Old U.S. Highway 30 runs through town and you can still find nearby wagon wheel ruts on the Oregon Trail where immigrants traveled to “The West” in covered wagons pulled by oxen.
Historic Three Island Crossing (where immigrants crossed the treacherous Snake River) can be viewed from the beautiful Three Island Crossing State Park that also includes the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.
