2012 Spirit of Boise Balloon Festival

The 2012 Spirit of Boise Balloon Festival got underway this morning, albeit with some difficulties.

Today’s events included a planned 7:00 a.m. launching of 23 hot air balloons; an event that had to be cancelled at the last minute due to technical difficulties.

Things should go better tomorrow with the planned launch of 30 balloons in the early morning.

The event runs through Saturday night, culminating in the popular “Night Glow” with dozens of hot air balloons tethered and lighted in Ann Morrison Park.

In case you’re wondering ~ yes, the RE/MAX Balloon will be there!

Launch time most days is early morning, around 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. when the winds are light.

I recommend getting there around 6:00 a.m. (yes, there are two 6:00s on your clock!) to see the balloonists set up and inflate their balloons before taking off.

If my past personal experiences are any indication, the balloons often drift in  Northwesterly direction out over Eagle and beyond before landing.

I have seen them pass 30’ above my home with passengers waving at me from their gondola.

This is one of Boise’s coolest annual events, so don’t miss it!
