Rented Goats Feast On Boise Foothills

A herd of 600 weed-eating goats has taken up residence in the Boise foothills, off Collister Road, behind Quail Ridge Subdivision.

I drove up for a look-see yesterday and was fascinated to see hundreds of goats munching on noxious weeds and grass just a few feet from nearby homes.

The goats, hired by the City of Boise, are provided by (appropriately-named) “We Rent Goats” in Wilder, Idaho.

To gain more insight into this interesting effort, I interviewed one of the goats while I was up there yesterday :)

The goat I spoke with (her name was “Nanny”) said that her herd eliminates noxious weeds and reduces fire danger at low cost while avoiding the use of pesticides.

Interesting concept!
