Kiplinger’s Loves Boise!

The July issue of Kiplinger’s has an article that says Boise is ranked #4 on its list of best places to live.

You can read it in its entirety, but I found the following facts about Boise interesting:

  • 37% of our population are college graduates (vs. 27% national average).
  • Boise employer’s cost of doing business is about one-third less than California or Washington.
  • Boise offers ample recreational opportunities, including snow skiing, hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing, biking, and drinking wine at a streetside wine bar downtown (my fave!).
  • Boise’s population is 568,086 (they must be referring to our entire MSA).
  • Boise’s population has grown 18.2% since 2000.
  • Boise’s cost of living index is 95.5 vs. 100 (the national average).
  • Boise’s median household income is $49,833.
  • Boise’s median household income has increased 16.6% since 2000.
  • Boise is a “magnet for the arts”.

The article states that our median home price is $235,000, but it’s actually $202,000 for a single-family home in Ada County, and you can get a nice home for under $200,000.

Now I remember all the reasons why I moved here!
